Last week my boyfriend and I met up with my parents in Oregon for our summer vacation! My folks have been coming to visit us in Arizona annually since we moved out here and last year we hatched a plan to escape the AZ heat and visit my Aunt and Uncle in Oregon (my cousin and his daughter also joined us!). We had such a great time, that I thought it would be fun to share a special “Oregon Edition” Friday Favorites post!

Happy Friday – I hope you are having a great week! The good news? We have almost made it to the weekend, friends! In case you are new, my “Friday Favorites“ posts are where I share products, music, websites, etc. that I am loving currently. I LOVE hearing about your favorites in the comments, so share away!
I made these treats from the adorable “Sugar & Soul” blog for our pup, Hank, who turned 4 in May. He LOVED them – apples and peanut butter are two of his favs! My batch was pretty moist, so I would recommend refrigerating them.
A good friend (hi Vivian!) recently shared explore.org with me. Have you seen this site?! There are cameras on all sorts of wildlife habits, streaming live, so the viewer can watch the animals in their natural habit. My friend is following along with the eagles in Iowa. I love so many, I haven’t been able to pick a favorite yet!
If you are in Arizona, or planning a trip here, I would HIGHLY recommend visiting the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson. It is part botanic garden, part aquarium, part zoo and it is AWESOME! There is so much information about the desert and is fun for people of all ages! The photo in this post is a view from the beginning of the loop around the grounds there!
Alright! Your turn! Let me know what you are loving in the comments! 🙂
Happy Friday! I hope you had a nice week! I am back with another edition of my Friday Favorites. I would love to hear about what you are loving – leave me a note in the comments!
On of my favorite Creatives, Artist & Illustrator Lisa Congdon, is having a pre-Mother’s Day sale in her Etsy shop (enter MOMRULES at check-out for 15% off through April 12th). I have been loving this archival print for months, so I might get it for myself!
Last weekend I was home in Kansas working on a t-shirt quilt with my Mom. My Mom has been quilting for several years now (and sewing most of her life), but this is only the second quilt I have worked on. We watched the t-shirt quilt tutorial from Missouri Star Quilt Company several times before we started my first quilt last December (pictured above). We have since ordered fabric from them and my Mom subscribes to their magazine publication “Block“. I could go on and on about what an awesome company MSQ is – all sewist’s should check them out!
I don’t know why it took me so long, but I have recently gotten really into podcasts! I listen to them when traveling (flying), commuting (no headphones, just the speaker) and when working on Sunflower Paperie orders. My current favorite is “The Way I Heard it” with Mike Rowe. Mike is crediting Paul Harvey (who I also loved) as his inspiration for the program. All of this, plus the historical nature of the stories and short length make this series perfect!
Other favorite podcasts include: “Build a B@d@ass Business” with Diane Sanfilippo, “Serial Season 1” with Sarah Koenig (I know I am SUPER behind the times on this one!) and “Undisclosed” with several attorneys looking at all of the evidence from the case introduced in Serial. If you are an iPhone user, look for the purple “Podcasts” icon – it is SO easy to search topics and subscribe!
Happy weekend, friend! I hope your days are filled with love and fun! 🙂
I am a little late sharing my “Friday Favorites” this week (oops), but for a good reason… Yesterday was my birthday, so I have been busy celebrating! In the spirit of birthdays, I thought it would be fun to share a bunch of things from my birthday wish list. 🙂
This item is going to seem SO random, but I want a set of Yoga Toes! A massage therapist once mentioned that I curled my toes under and ever since I have noticed that I do! Even while sitting or standing, my natural reflex is to curl my toes – which is not good at all! The reviews I have read about this product seem like they would help my overall foot health.
I have gone back and forth about whether I wanted a fitness tracker for a couple of years now. With my goals for this year, and my specific action items, I have decided I want one and have done some research. I would like the Fitbit Charge HR, now I just need to decide on a color!
Seriously, how cute is this cactus phone case?! I have been checking it out since I got my phone last November and I still think it is super cute!
This choice might show my age, but I really want a new pair of glasses from Warby Parker! I like these, these and these! The company lets you select up to 5 pairs to send to you to try on at home, but one of my students recently told me there is a store in Scottsdale, so my plan is to go there soon, so I can try on more than 5 pairs!
What have you been loving lately?! I would love to check out your picks, so leave them in the comments!
Happy Halloween! It’s finally the weekend! Woo-hoo – we made it! I really shouldn’t complain, because I had last Monday off, so the work week was short me. 🙂 As with my previous Friday Favorites posts, below is a random assortment of businesses, articles and other miscellany that I am loving.
I went to graduate school with Amy who started an awesome business, Barnside Breaks, several years ago. She lives out in the country, has a full fledged skate park on her property and has a red heeler. In sum, she is amazing. She makes jewelry and home goods out of used skateboards and her designs aren’t like anything I have ever seen!
The more we hike and camp, the more I love REI. I was excited to see the announcement from their CEO that they won’t be open on Black Friday.
After several years away, Adele released a new song this week! I can’t wait for her new album to come out in November!
Now it’s your turn… Tell me what your are loving (and what I should check out!) in the comments! Happy weekend, friends!
Happy Friday (now Saturday), friends! It’s been awhile since I shared a “Friday Favorites” post (or any post for that matter, haha!), so I thought it would be fun to post today! These posts are a quick way for me to share things that I am loving currently.
We recently traveled to Colorado (see Rocky Mountain National Park photo above) where everyone was carrying a Hydro Flask. I recently purchased the 40 oz. wide mouth bottle in “orange zest” and am waiting on my straw lid to arrive, so I can start using it. The biggest selling points for me are that the bottles don’t “sweat” and ice is reported to last forever in it!
I am loving Ryan Adam’s cover of Taylor Swift’s album 1989, specifically the song Bad Blood. If you are looking for some drama, Google Ryan Adam’s and read all about the controversy surrounding him covering her album. While I agree with some of the points made, at the end of the day, if Taylor is o.k. with it, then I am too. 😉
Speaking of drama, I am currently reading The Girl in the Spider’s Web – the next Lisbeth Salander novel. I loved the first three Lisbeth Salander books by Stieg Larsson, so I am excited to see the character continue with a new author. So far the book has been well written and very similar stylistically to the first three books.
As I referenced above, we visited Colorado in September for my boyfriend’s birthday. In addition to visiting lots of breweries (New Belgium and Avery Brewing were our favorites!), we also spent some time in Rocky Mountain National Park. Our “American the Beautiful” annual pass had expired, so we purchased a new one. Now our goal is to beat our record of seeing 9 parks in one year!
Your turn! What are you loving currently?! I would love to hear about your favorites in the comments!
Happy Friday! I inadvertently took a two week vacation from my blog – sorry about that! I cracked up this morning because Facebook sent me an e-mail, and there was a big reminder on my newsfeed, that I hadn’t posted to my business page in two weeks. Facebook is so pushy, haha! Never fear Facebook (and my other 2 readers), I am back today with another edition of Friday Favorites.
I am a history lover and one of the first topics that interested me in the subject was the Holocaust. This article about Nicholas Winton brought tears to my eyes and inspiration to my heart. His sentiment, “Some people revel in taking risks, and some go through life taking no risks at all” really struck a chord with me. This video of Mr. Winton is also touching.
I LOVE Instagram accounts that are used for promoting compassion and empathy towards others (both human and canine!). Humans of New York (HONY) is definitely a favorite account. If you aren’t following Brandon, his account is totally worth signing up for Instagram for.
Susie’s Senior Dogs (who happens to be run by the girlfriend of Brandon who started HONY) is another account that always pulls at my heart strings.
I also respect Mark Bustos and his mission – he is a hair stylist who provides hair cuts to the homeless. His motto of “be awesome to somebody” is inspiring and I love that he uses his trade to bring confidence and hope to the less fortunate.
The Pressbound Etsy shop is having a 50% off sale – I stockpiled a TON of beautiful cards! She is actually closing her shop, so once something sells out it is gone for good.
Alright, your turn! Tell me in the comments what you are loving this week!
Hello! So sorry for the radio silence over here! We visited Wyoming last week (see photo above!) and although I had great intentions of posting while I was gone, I completely unplugged instead! I will be sharing more about our trip soon, but in the meantime, I have another edition of Friday Favorites!
Some of you may know that my Dad is a woodworker and I actually worked for him a bit during high school and college. Needless to say, I have a great deal of respect for woodworkers and the amazing things they can create. One of my (now former) co-workers recently launched her own woodworking and design business! I am SUPER excited to share her website with you – don j design! The icing on the cake? Her shop kitty Don Julio is running the company Twitter account!
I LOVE dogs! This 60 MInutes piece on “Chaser,” who has been nicknamed the “world’s smartest dog,” is fascinating! It also makes me feel like a bit of a slacker pet parent. 😉
Another thing I love? Sleeping. In the past couple of years, I have become somewhat obsessed with having the perfect sleep environment. I regularly use a sleep mask similar to the one found here. My boyfriend actually got it for me at Target and while I initially thought it was a strange gift, I now swear by it (and even it take it with me when traveling). I like the contoured version because it blocks the light, but doesn’t rest on my eyes.
Now it’s your turn, what have you been loving lately?!
Happy Friday friends! Thanks for joining me for another edition of my “Friday Favorites”!
I shared this on Facebook as well, but how amazing is this story?! I would actually love to hear how diphtheria research has changed since she was a student in 1938!
One last shameless plug… I love Tina’s recap of Quinn’s 1st birthday party! She was so fun to collaborate with and I loved seeing all of the photos of the items I had provided!
After reading about tongue scraping (you read that correctly, tongue scraping!) on several sites, I decided to purchase one for myself. Honestly, I love this thing. Apparently our bodies detox through our tongues at night and brushing only moves the toxins around (and then we swallow them). Tongue scraping gets those toxins right off! I have noticed fresher breath and cleaner teeth (I guess because there isn’t junk on my tongue to latch on to my teeth?!) since I started using it regularly two weeks ago.
Our beloved dog, Hank, is an Australian Shepherd / Australian Cattle dog mix who has an insanely thick coat of LONG fur! When he was smaller I purchased a FURminator and it has remained one of our best pet care investments! We purchased the medium sized de-shedding tool for long haired dogs. My only regret is that I didn’t buy the large sized brush! So. Much. Fur.
Of Monsters and Men released a new album! Love this group!
Once upon a time, I was in a musical entitled “Susan B. Anthony,” so outside of obvious reasons (I am a woman and I am a lover of history!), I am SO excited for the movie Suffragette documenting the women’s suffrage movement in the United Kingdom.
You can read my previous Friday Favorites here! What products, stories and music are you currently loving?! I would love to hear about your favorites in the comments!
Several of my favorites bloggers post weekly roundups that highlight products and other things (places, music, articles) that they are currently enjoying. I always like reading these posts, so I thought it would be fun to add my own take on a weekly roundup – behold the first installment of “Friday Favorites”!
We recently visited San Diego with my folks (see Sunset Cliffs photo above). My boyfriend and I decided to go back for the 4th of July (AZ will be SO hot by that point!). I am so excited to celebrate our Nation’s birthday here!
I have flat feet and after years of buying cheap (but cute) shoes, I have decided to invest a bit more money into quality shoes that actually support my feet. I decided to see what the Chaco craze was all about, with this pair of flip flops. So far, I am loving them!
The new Mumford & Sons album, Wilder Mind, is amazing. I know some people were disappointed, but I feel like they really stepped up their lyrical game!
This post, by another one of my favorite bloggers, Roo over at Semiproper, addressing the Josh Duggar sexual abuse case.
Sheryl Sandberg’s essay on grief and loss following the sudden death of her husband.
Shopping through Amazon Smile. I confess my love for Amazon on a daily basis (same day delivery is now available in Phoenix!), and Amazon Smile is one of the reasons I like the company so much. You can pick which charity you want to support (our house loves the Arizona Cattle Dog Rescue) and as long as you make a qualifying purchase through smile.amazon.com, Amazon will donate a percentage of your purchase price to the charity.
How’s that for a random mash up of awesome?! What are you currently loving?!
